Maplesden Noakes, 7.30pm kick off.
Gravesham 5 Medway 1 (Scorers: Osborne(3), Bagirtkan, Houghton)
Gravesham started their season on a blustery evening at Maplesden Noakes. The early exchanges were even with both teams having opportunities to score. In particular Gravesham had to defend well against a fast Medway attack. After 16 minutes David Ikumobasin went on a powerful run which culminated in George Osborne receiving the ball and calmly sliding it past the Medway goalkeeper. Gravesham created a few more opportunities to score but Medway equalised a minute before half-time following one of their forwards being left unmarked eight yards from goal.
Medway edged the opening minutes of the second half before Gravesham started to stamp their authority on the match. This started after 48 minutes when the ball fell to debutante Nej Bagirtkan who drove the ball ferociously into the roof of the net from 20 yards. The tireless George Osborne then increased the lead to 3-1 after 50 minutes and then completed his hat-trick five minutes later. Cameron Houghton completed the scoring after 70 minutes to make the final score 5-1 to Gravesham who are top of the league table at this very early stage of the season.

Gravesham 2 Bromley 1 (Scorers: Blake, Ikumobasin)

In a fairly even first half Gravesham enjoyed the majority of possession but Bromley at least matched them in terms of opportunities on goal. However, Gravesham broke the deadlock two minutes before half-time when Ellis Blake headed in a cross from Joe Salmon.
In the second half Bromley continued to threaten and some string defending and good saves by goalkeeper Olly Fox de Klerk kept the opposition at bay. However, Bromley were awarded a penalty after 55 minutes which they successfully converted to level the scores. Gravesham pushed to gain a victory and a determined run by the powerful David Ikumobasin saw him score to secure maximum points for Gravesham.

Four minutes later Nej Bagirtkan played a simple pass to Cameron Houghton who hit a ferocious shot from 20 yards which beat the Maidstone goalkeeper and flew into the net off of the inside of the post. Gravesham's central defenders Louie Watkins and Jermaine Dee thwarted any Maidstine attacks and full backs Joe Salmon and George Wells used the ball well to initiate attacks. After 20 minutes Gravesham extended their lead to 3-0 after a masterful string of more than 20 passes resulted in Vinnie Medhurst's shot being saved by the Maidstone 'keeper before George Miles reacted quickly to score.

Saturday 7th October, 2017. Round 1
Croydon Postal Sports Ground, Trenham Drive, Warlingham, CR6 9RU, 10.30 kick off
Croydon 4 Gravesham 1 (Scorer: O.G.)
Gravesham started the game brightly and were unfortunate after two minutes when Caneron Houghton saw the home team's goalkeeper off of his line and his intelligent strike from 40 yards only just cleared the crossbar. Four minutes later Gravesham did take the lead when, following pressure from Ellis Blake, a Croydon defender attempted to pass the ball back to his own goalkeeper from 30 yards but instead hit the ball into his own net. After 25 minutes defender Louie Watkins nearly scored but he was tackled as he shot and saw the ball go out for a Gravesham corner. The rest of the half remained fairly even with Gravesham enjoying the majority of possession but without creating any clear cut chances.
Gravesham went into the second half with a 1-0 advantage but Croydon drew level after 51 minutes. Gravesham then had to soak up more pressure and Godfrey Torto-Doku put in an outstanding performance in defence. Both teams had some chances to score but it was Croydon who took the lead with just eight minutes remaining. Gravesham had to push on to try to equalise but this left them a little exposed at the back and Croydon scored two more goals in the final minutes to make the final score 4-1.
