Monday 16th September Kent Cup Sittingbourne Community College
Bromley 4 Gravesham 3 (Scorers: Malyon, Uings (2, 1 penalty))
This was Gravesham U15’s first game in the Fletcher Trophy and were unlucky to be on the wrong end of a 7 goal thriller after missing a penalty in the dying minutes. Bromley were quickest out of the blocks scoring twice in quick succession after two lapses in concentration from Gravesham. The two goals spurned Gravesham on as Macey Malyon went close before pulling a goal back to make it 2-1.
Bromley soon restored their 2 goal advantage with a well worked goal 5 minutes before half-time. Gravesham still had time to hit back with Mitchell Uings winning and dispatching the resultant penalty. Gravesham enjoyed the better of the second half and were soon level at 3-3 after a fine individual goal by Mitchell Uings.
Gravesham looked like earning a well-deserved draw, but Bromley snatched what turned out to be the winner 10 minutes from time. There was still time for some drama and with Gravesham being awarded another penalty with two minutes left on the clock. Mitchell Uings stepped up after scoring the first, but was thwarted by the Bromley goalkeeper to prevent Gravesham earning the draw they deserved after a slow start.
Monday 21st October Kent Cup Maplesden Noakes School
Gravesham 4 Maidstone 5 (Scorers: Uings(2), Malyon, Sutherland)
Gravesham were extremely unlucky to be on the wrong end of a 9 goal thriller. Gravesham were quickest out of the blocks playing a high pressing game that worked to their advantage when Maidstone were caught in possession and Mitchell Uings gladly fired Gravesham into the lead. The lead did not last long and Maidstone were soon level at 1-1.
Gravesham regained the lead through some lapse defending and Dale Sutherland was on hand to put the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately Maidstone were level at half time through some lapse defending by Gravesham.
The second half saw Gravesham frustrate Maidstone for long periods. They were extremely threatening on the counter attack and scored two excellent goals through Mitchell Uings and Macey Malyon making the score 4-2. It seemed as though Gravesham were looking to win their first group match of the season. However, Maidstone had other ideas as Gravesham tired due to lack of numbers Maidstone scored 3 goals in a 10 minute period to take all of the points.
